A Few Helpful Tips For Puppies
* Bring your puppy to the meeting after you get him/her. They don't have to have all their shots until they participate in the traing circle at 13 weeks, but they should be exposed to the meeting ASAP. Your puppy should be held or placed on a blanket/towel at the meeting,
* Be sure to take your puppy out right after he/she wakes up from a nap, finishes eating or playing and gets excited.
* Limit your pups water! No water after 5pm, except for possibly an ice cube.
* Confine your puppy to one area - possibly the kithchen or dining room where he/she can play but where it is easy to clean up.
* Play with your pups ears and paws, this will become useful when you groom your dog or take him to the vet.
* Introduce them to the come command early, and be sure to give them LOTS of praise when they come. The earlier the better! Same applies to stairs.
* If you are having a problem and need help trying to fix it call Kim, Linda or Kathy and they will try to help you solve the problem.
* Before getting a puppy, or if you are having a problem, a book entitled "The Art of Raising A Puppy" by the Monks of New Skete may be a helpful read. Many of the ideas included are practiced by the Seeing Eye. It is available at any book store.
* Puppies should be exposed to: * Riding in the car * Traffic Sounds * Sudden Noises * Other Animals * Crowds * Slippery Floors * Stairs * Stores (other then restaurants and supermarkets)
* Always call ahead to the store to make sure they don't mind you bringing your dog in. Remember that you are not a professinal trainer and they have the right to refuse you. Don't take your dog into any resturants or supermarkets. Absolutly NO ESCALATORS! They cause a problem should the pup get stuck or afraid. Remember your ID card when you take your pup anywhere (the pup must be 16 weeks or older). Also, remember your manners, please be courteous and polite whether you are accepted or not.
